Vikinglotto history

  • Vikinglotto started in 1991. It was the first multinational lottery in Europe.
  • First draw was in 17th March 1993 with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden participating. Format was six numbers between 1 - 48 and three additional numbers.
  • Estonia joins on 2000.
  • In 2002 The Joker game is introduced on Wednesday nights in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland as a addon game.
  • In 2004 The Lucky Number is introduced on 18th August in Finland, Denmark, Norway and Iceland. The jackpot prize increases if the pre-drawn lucky number is one of the main numbers to appear in the Vikinglotto draw.
  • In 2011 Latvia (Latvijas Loto) and Lithuania (Olifeja) join the lottery.
  • On 2017 24th May Viking number replaces Lucky Numbers. Only the jackpot and second-tier prizes are now the same in all participating countries. Remaining prize categories are decided nationally.
  • 2017 Jakcpot limits are introduced. €35 million jackpot maximum and €3 million minimum.
  • 2017 9th November Slovenia joins the lottery.
